Yes, when I first began painting them, I used a photo in an old book I was loaned by a friend. Now, I've drawn them so often (and abused their proportions and dignity so much) that I don't usually use a photo reference any more.
They are fun to paint. Like feathered dinosaurs. Happy New Year to you!
