Pink Sea

Pink Sea, working title, 36 x 24, acrylic/collage
by Elizabeth W. Seaver

New piece for my summer show...

I'm having such fun working on a larger scale for me.  The size works for this show vary between 18 x 36 to 30 x 40. However, I also like to work very small, and I will be including some of them in this show, too.

What is your favorite size to create?

Enormous thanks to all of you who commented on my last post.  I got behind with writing to each of you, but I appreciate all the nice remarks.  You guys rock!

Elizabeth, Nice collage work on the umbrella. I don't really have a favorite size; I guess it just depends on my mood. Right now I'm working on a 6" x 6" piece. It's a nice change from the larger 18" x 24" that I finished recently. Smaller is certainly easier to handle and I don't knock as much stuff off of my desk with a smaller painting.

love what you are doing Elizabeth. Realy fun looking pieces. It looks as if you are enjoying it as much.

Hah! Michelle, I agree that the ease of working with the smaller canvases trumps the big ones!

Thanks for weighing in on the size issue and for commenting on my new piece.

Hi, Gary. Thanks so much for stopping by. You are right. I have more fun than any three "regular" people!

Wonderful undulation as usual! For me 51 by 41 is my niche, but recently upto 1.2 by 2.4 metres, I am greedy. I want my painting finished before it starts - so small is good - but it is also cramped

Thanks, Andrew. Is 41 x 51 big? It sounds big.

Your illustrations are so awesome. I would imagine even a small one taking a long time!

Elizabeth, you are so talented! I have the picture you made me before you left Houston and became famous, in fact, it is on the wall right here, next to my computer. I look at it everyday and is grateful for our friendship.
Thanks for visiting my brand new blog. Obviously, you've been doing this longer than I have, please advise whenever you see fit.

Elizabeth...I just LOVE your umbrellas. The collage work is wonderful on this. I'm not sure the size that is my fav stays the same from day to day, but I can tell you I absolutely LOVE square formats...and really skinny...:)

Hey, Yan! I'm so glad you can still stand to look at it. That is the best compliment you can give an artist! I will be in Houston next week. I wonder whether we can find each other??

Hi, Saundra. It's so funny because I say how I like to work, and then you say "square and skinny," and I love those, too. I think I just like to paint on anything that stays still long enough!!

I really like the color combo you have going on here. Pinks, teals, and that touch of yellow in the umbrella!

I switch back and forth on the size I prefer to work with. Lately the small 5x7ish sizes have seemed cramped and I've been putting a lot of time into them trying to get things to come out the way I want. I'm ready to start some bigger pieces!

Hi, Kerri! Thanks for dropping by and wading in on the size discussion.

It is not true that just because a canvas is small that it takes that much less time to paint. That's been an interesting thing to find out!

Love the collage work in the umbrella and the contrast of the colors!

Hi, Elizabeth! Nice name! I'm so glad you like it.

Great job. I love those waves.

Whatever size canvas I happen to have available is usually the size I paint next.

Hi Elizabeth, another beautiful peace, you're work is so cool!

I did murals a few years ago, so my biggest projects then were 9' x 12'. But now for my colored pencil work I use about 60 - 80% of 11" X 14".

This painting is so playful. Love the whimsical quality of the blowing pom-poms and the stylized waves.

My size has been 6X6 for a long time but after seeing your new larger works it makes me want to branch out.
Whatever the size, I just love the square format.

Love it...a very fun and fanciful painting! And big! I'm used to painting 11"x14" or smaller.
