But Does She Ever Finish One?

Canvas 1/5, remember it is only at state 2, acrylic/printmaking
artwork by Elizabeth Seaver

Yes, I do.  I finish lots of them.  But if I plan to put it in a showing of new work (as is the case with some of these latest beginnings,) I intend to save the final reveal for the opening.  If it falls out of the show line-up, I will post the finished painting.

Also, I like to work on several pieces at once, and it is not a linear nor even a particularly circular process.  Some observers might say it appears haphazard, or more kindly, a puzzling, almost mystical ritual wherein the artist moves randomly from piece to piece, muttering to herself and changing her brush water with frequency.  So, I do tend to hop around showing you first this piece and then that one.  You MUST buckle your seat belt.

This piece appeared in its first state in a previous but recent post as the canvas flat on the table.  I will continue to push and pull the lights and darks as I work on it.  I also plan to create some other item of interest in the piece besides the texture--not sure what that's going to be yet.

Welcome to my newest followers.  Thanks for joining me.  All of you who comment on my posts keep me inspired with your work and encouraged by your support.  I do appreciate you!

Are you sure you don't mutter? You work alone in your studio, don't you? You can't get away with anything when you work in the company of 40 other artists. All your oddities are brought into the light!

Thanks for your comment. I'll make sure you get a post card, Cathyann.

Lookin forward to more!! I keep telling my husband I want to move to where you are and work with you!! HA Ahhh dreams!

What nice compliments, V. Thank you so much for this encouragement. It means so much.

And I would be pleased if you used "essence of feline" in a title.

Saundra--come down off your mountain and we can work together. Or, I guess I could climb your mountain, too. But, I will have to tell you, friend, it will not be in the winter!

Thanks for continuing to bring brightness to my day by following my blog.

Leslie, you make me laugh out loud. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks, Leslie! I hope your house has dried out and the mud isn't too bad out there in California.

I really love the vertical-ness of this one, Elizabeth! And the cool tones are spectacular! I love being able to see through your eyes! :o)

Elizabeth, this is wonderful. So haunting, rich and lovely yet a bit whimsical. I also love the one in golds and the one from the other day with the robin. Gorgeous!

Hey, Leese! Long time no visit! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Let's chat soon.

Kim, I do appreciate such kind remarks. I am trying these new paintings with a very simple palette, and I am pretty happy with them so far.

Elizabeth you've described my working habits exactly! Nice to see there are a good few more of us like this out there! But I don't mutter, I speak quite clearly and loudly to myself ;)
It's hard to focus on one thing when there are a zillion ideas in your head.

This is going to be a great series, looking forward to the finished product.

Whew, glad to know I am not alone in conversing to myself out loud!

well I certainly love how that is looking! You are taking it further? I do enjoy it how it stands. I understand what you mean about not wanting to "show all your cards"..I try not to put absolutely everything on my blog for that same reason....You're smart to hold something back for gosh sakes, lol. Promise to show all later, though! Finally, I also agree about commenters. It is a privilege to share ideas with people all around the world!

I like the dark mystery of this one. And I have a feeling most of us who check art blogs would be fascinated to stand back and watch something being created - much more entertaining and inspiring than other Real Life programs :)
