Crossing a Tightrope with Wings

 Tightrope I, WIP, collage/acrylic on wooden board, 8 x 8

At LibertyTown we get notes and checks in these cool envelopes recycled from old maps.  Sometimes I use it as my money collection envelope for the month; sometimes I turn it back in to the office to be used next month, but THIS time I tore it up for collage.

Someone asked me (as I was painting away at this and talking about my planned series about other birdies on a wire) whether it was cheating to cross a tightrope when you are able to fly.  As in, Where's the thrill in that?, I guess.  Now, I don't know about you, but crossing a tightrope when one is blessed with a generously round figure on spindly legs which one folds up and puts away when the real mode of transportation is in operation.....well, I just call that courageous!  And there is no need for that awkward net drooping below to spoil the view from above.  No, I think wings and tightropes are a perfect pairing.

When was the last time you walked a tightrope, with or with out a spiffy umbrella or an outfit that sparkles?

Elizabeth, I love what you've used for the collage! What a great idea. I would love to start an art journal, and I can't even draw! Would you have any ideas for someone like me??

Hi, Yan! Your artwork is your quilting and gardening. That's a good place to start. I could see you working in collage very easily with quilt patterns and florals and plant life as other subjects. Go girl! Get started!

Thanks, Saundra. I certainly have a rich internal life, and I'm getting braver about sharing it without worrying that people will think, "Is she nuts???"

You guys in Colorado deserve some warm weather!

Hi, E. No, nothing is safe from collage artists. Don't put anything down in my studio you don't want to see in some future painting! Thanks for stopping by to "see" me!

I'm stuck on the envelopes...Really? That is so cool. The town uses them? Anyway, another great piece. I really like the pose. She's a little bit of a show-off, no? ; )

Heh, you know the words really add a lot to this image, and vica -versa. Great body language on the bird (talking about words), and the image of myself in spangled pants on a tightrope - heh.

You know, when I look at your work, I just want to go and rip some old maps up (and do some collage)!

cheers

thanks for sharing the process

I can always count on a smile when visiting your blog. This one is so funny and whimsical, so well done. I appreciate your observation that being a little "round" could possibly throw a curve in the ability to fly. Thank goodness for that umbrella!
