Oh, Say, Can You See?

...the beginnings of the first layer of a new collage/painting (24 x 30) in my series: Birds You Won't Find in a Field Guide. I have a student (a talented interior designer by day) who is interested in the way I do this tortuous under-painting method, so I started this painting to demonstrate. She began her own yesterday. Her collage is beautifully done with carefully chosen papers in coordinating colors. I'm not entirely sure I'm going to be able to convince her to paint over it!

Nobody said art was easy.

Elizabeth, thanks for the comment you made about my painting. I am enjoying your collages too. The flamingos are terrific.

Wonderful. I really do enjoy these collage series.

Hey, if it was easy...everybody would do it, right? :D

I'm interested in learning this, too. This is beautiful.

I sat next to an interior designer in an extension class at Cooper Union on color theory; she made me feel like a messy first grader with her amazing, meticulous piecing and gluing of colored papers.

If this is the beginning then the end will be sublime! I like the flamingo's (Flamingo was my totem name as I used to be a girl scout:-), your colors, the technique... Once I will try this too, once...

Ooooooh. Love this one! Great colors and energy. I WANT IT.

Thank you for always giving us a glimpse your process. You make it look like so fun rather than the really hard work it is. I may get the courage to try again because of your inspiration.

My goodness you are so creative. Lucky lady who is learning from you!!
Love your prints AND this collage.. Sometimes it's okay NOT to paint over beautifully selected papers isn't it?

I've been neglectful; I see I've missed some very nice work - but it was a pleasure to browse and catch up!!
