Just Finished

Ballet on the Beach, 24 x 24, acrylic and collage
Elizabeth W. Seaver
Sold

Who says swimwear is required at the beach? Katerina dances to the beat of a different drummer.

Ah, sand, warm breezes and cool ocean. It's hard not to feel we deserve it after such a tough winter, right?

Blessings and happy creating to you all.

Little Seed Eater

WIP, Little Seed Eater, acrylic/collage, 36 x 24, by Elizabeth Seaver

I began this painting last week from a photo taken in my friend Aline's wonderful garden.  She snapped several pictures of this gold finch harvesting sunflower seeds last summer.  I have been meaning to paint them ever since, but it wasn't until the icy winter that I found the time to paint the warm weather subject.

It helps me remember that summer will return.

When I have icicles hanging off my nose.

(A bit of an ungrateful exaggeration since we've had weather that got all the way to 60 several days in a row--hallelujah!)

The collage underpainting will be slowly covered, disguised and/or muted by the layers of acrylic paint.  This was just the progress of a couple of day's work.

I wanted to say welcome to my new followers and thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments on my January posts.  You are appreciated.

Funny Rabbit

Funny Rabbit, oil

I present Funny Rabbit for your enjoyment. This is a picture of progress up to yesterday, and today I touched up the butterfly and signed it. I am waiting for an order from Jerry's with the proper sized stretcher strips. I plan on leaving him unframed because the painting will continue around the edges.

Yesterday, my buddy,Elizabeth, asked me to show the piece I had been working on when she stopped by my studio. I have stretched it, finished size 8 x 8, signed it and varnished it. Done! See below.

Dreams of Summer, mixed media with acrylic and paper

I'm pretty pleased with the results of my work, and it inspired me to work on collages all day today. I even cut up aluminum cans. But more about that later!

Reduction Block Print Demo, Step 6

The block in step 5 shows legs, feet and three sections of umbrella carved away. Now it is time to print in the next color, a deep red. Since I want the sand to stay "sandy-colored," I cut away all of the area around the umbrella, up to the edge of the block before printing. Above, see the print after that inking.

Tomorrow, the print series is finished.
